Inquiry #63: This inquiry goes along with the previously posted and answered inquiry #46 and deals with prime coat on this project. As you know, there are many 56 hour closures to be performed at the various ramps on this project. This means the existing roadway will need to be excavated, subgrade will need to be made, aggregate base will need to be placed, compacted and graded, and the areas will need to be paved with HMA in 56 hours. There really is not time to wait for prime oil application, and set up/break time prior to HMA paving.
Other concerns we have involve the availability of prime oil due to how rarely it is used, not to mention the mess it can make of jobsite, and existing pavement.
Please delete the prime oil requirement at a minimum for the ramps, and preferably for the rest of the project as well.

Inquiry #75: Several Ready-Mix Concrete suppliers have expressed concern about servicing the project. As stated on the Lane Closure Charts, "3. Vehicles with 3 or more axles may only enter/exit the work or median area during this authorized Lane Requirement Chart hours". As Concrete Trucks have 3 axles, it is understood that, if Ready-Mix Trucks are to be used, all the concrete will have to poured at night. The Ready-Mix suppliers do not have the manpower to service all this night work. Would Caltrans consider relaxing this requirement for, at least, concrete pours?
