Inquiry #1: Would Caltrans release digital files for the alignments, existing and finished grade surfaces in an .XML or .DWG format to expedite and increase accuracy of takeoffs.
Inquiry submitted 11/30/2021

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 12/01/2021

Response #2:Caltrans will not be providing any plans in .XML format.
Response posted 12/07/2021

Inquiry #2: There are multiple stage signs shown on plan sheet 235-292(TH-1 Thru TH-58), but there is no quantity sheet with the size of the sign panels and method of installation.
For example on sheet 263 sign #2C-6 & 2C-7 are G8-16, which are specials temp signs with out sizes of the sign panel.
All the stage signs have sign #'s, just need Q sheet with the sign number.

Response #2:Please use the tables (link below) together with Sheet SD-2.

Inquiry #3: In regards to question #1 answer, we request that Caltrans reconsider releasing XML files, not plans. Historically, in past large dirt projects, Caltrans has released these digital surface type files which include the existing surface, the FG surface and alignment surfaces allowing the contractors to build a more concise takeoff model increasing accuracy.

Inquiry #5: The Traffic Handling Plans sheets TH-1 thru TH-58 (plan pages 236-292) show existing K-Rail remaining from previous stages (in lightly hatched lines); however, a lot of these existing K-Rails conflict with work areas to be built, and some of the existing K-rails from previous stages go thru the middle of some work areas. Please provide revised Traffic Handling Plans that show which K-Rail is to remain from previous stage.
Inquiry submitted 12/20/2021

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 12/20/2021

Response #2:See Amddendum 1.
Response posted 01/27/2022

Inquiry #6: Ditto on inquiry no. 5. Krail remaining from previous stage is not clear, and we can not figure total need of krail per stage.
example sheet 242 and 252, stage 1b - 2a TG1 110+57.5-123+43 south bound left side 27.6-30.7, page 252 shows krail from previous stage, does not address crash barrels or how much krail stays from 1b. Very confusing and time consuming endeavor, will prob. need more time to bid also.
quantity take off for krail is not typical, usually Caltrans breaks down by run, we have a total per stage?
please clarify.

Inquiry #14: On Sheet C-15, some of the pavement sections called on the top left are not the same as the pavement sections called out and referred to on Sheet X-1. For example, on Sheet C-15, pavement section 1 is called out as full depth HMA. But pavement section 1 on Sheet X-1 contains .65' of LCB and .5' of AB2. Pavement section 2 is also called out as full depth HMA, but it contains 1' of AB2. Can Caltrans clarify how the pavement sections on Sheet C-15 are related to the pavement sections on Sheet X-1?
Inquiry submitted 01/13/2022

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 01/13/2022

Response #2:Per the note in the legend, the section numbers shown on C-15 refer to the identical numbers shown on X-1.

Inquiry #17: In reference to Standard Specification 20-5.03B(2)(c) for the Rock Blanket, it says that the rock must be clean, smooth, and obtained from a single source. Are you requesting smooth rock consistent with river run cobblestone or rock similar to Sonoma/Napa fieldstone that has at least one smooth side? Is there an example of, or an installation of the type of rock blanket you are requesting so that we may visit the site in order to produce something similar?

Inquiry #19: In your response to Inquiry #14, you say to refer to the section numbers on Sheet X-1. So the description of Section 1 on Sheet C-15 is not Full Depth HMA and is incorrect. Can you correct the pavement descriptions on Sheet C-15 to correspond with pavement structural sections on Sheet X-1? And if C-15 is correct, what are the section depths of the Full Depth HMA?
Inquiry submitted 01/18/2022

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 01/18/2022

Response #2:Pavement sections shall be constructed per the Typical section sheets (X-1). There is a Reference # provided on C-15 that correlates to the SAME pavement section #'s provided on X-1. The "FULL DEPTH HMA" text in the legend was only intended to be descriptive of the desired surfacing. All quantities and pavement sections are per X-1.

Inquiry #21: Addenda 1 was issued on 1/18/2022, with 109 revised plan sheets (18% of the original), 7 specification revisions, and 20 Bid Quantity revisions, we consider this Addenda a major revision. The revisions are further complicated by the projects already complex construction staging. We respectfully request a bid date push of at least three weeks, in order to review and incorporate this very large addendum. We would ask Caltrans to also consider the very high DBE goal established for this project. Because of this high DBE goal, we need more time to outreach and communicate these extensive Addendum changes to the DBE firms we are working with to bid on this project.

Are the roads to remain in-place, be obliterated in-place, or removed and off-hauled and the void filled with some type of specified fill material?
Inquiry submitted 01/21/2022

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 01/21/2022

Inquiry #25: Section D-D on Sheet TH-16, Stage 2A, shows temporary shoring for embankment at the back side of the southbound 29 side of the roadway. In this area, the roadway on the "TG 1" line is at or near OG, not on an embankment requiring shoring. The main fills don't start until Stage 2B, with possibly using a temporary shoring wall at the right edge of northbound 29 since the future highway is higher than the "TG 1" line. Can Caltrans check Section D-D and correct it, if necessary, so it shows current traffic conditions?
Inquiry submitted 01/21/2022

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 01/21/2022

Response #2:Section D-D, shown on TH-16 is correct. The shoring as shown, is for excavating below EG to construct the southern roundabout (left side of section D-D). See Sheet PS-7 for profile.
Response posted 01/24/2022

Inquiry #26: On Sheet TH-16, Stage 2A, can Caltrans show a cross section at Station 101+00 on the "TG 1" line? We think there may be a conflict between the construction in this stage and the NB/SB 29 traffic lanes.
Inquiry submitted 01/21/2022

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 01/21/2022

Response #2:Construction of southern roundabout is made possible with "Temp Shoring for Embankment" (in this case for cut condition). No conflicts exist as shown. Section is identical to Section D-D as shown on sheet TH-16.
Response posted 01/24/2022

Inquiry #27: In Stage 2B, we build a partial fill for the construction of the new northbound lanes of Highway 29. In what stage do we complete the fill over the "TG-1" line?
Inquiry submitted 01/21/2022

Response #1:Embankments are planned to be constructed between stages 3E and 5E, as shown on SC- 13 and SC-20. While shown on SC-20, Note 1 on sheet SC-1 permits non-conflicting work to be performed prior to as shown, with approval from the engineer.
