Inquiry #10: ITEM #207, CONCRETE BARRIER, TYPE 60MGF- 210 LF:
The Concrete Barrier Quantity Chart on Q-3, 168 of 375, shows two (2) runs of 103 LF each. Construction Details sheet C-3, 23 of 375, shows the 60MGF from 317+18.50 to 318+20.99. Revised Standard Plan A77F, for CB60MGF indicates that the pay length is Station to Station, not the length of each side. This means that the actual pay length should be 103 LF. Item # 207 is not a Final Pay Item, so this would be a large under-run of quantity. Will CDOT correct the Bid item to the correct quantity?

Inquiry #57: Bid Item 118 - Precast Concrete Panels - indicates a Pay Quantity of 3,962 Sf [Final Pay]. Based on the "Pile Data Table" on Plan Sheet 336 of 375 we get a calculated Pay Quantity of 4,778 Sf. We realize this Bid Item is Final Pay but by our calculations this Item is an overrun of 816 Sf. or 20.6%. Without an adjustment of this Pay Item to something close to what is intended on the Plan Sheet we will have a grossly overstated cost for this Bid Item. Beyond that issue is the potential for a Bidder to take Caltrans pay quantity as reasonably accurate and significantly under price the actual intended work. Please revise this quantity to accurately reflect what is expected by Caltrans for this Bid Item.

Inquiry #70: Please refer to plan sheets for Retaining Wall 2 and details related to pile cover plate, and precast panel. Section K-K, and L-L on plan sheet 339 indicate that a ½” x 18” x 18” cover plate is to be shop welded (each flange and both sides of web) to the top of each soldier pile. Plan sheet 337 shows the top plate to receive undercoat and finish coat of paint to all surfaces. Section C-C on plan sheet 338 indicates the precast panels are 10” wide and the top elevation the precast panels is the bottom of the concrete barrier slab. We have the following questions/ comments:
1. Based on the dimensions of the precast panels provided on plan sheet 338, the panels must be placed between the soldier pile beams from the top. This is not possible with the top cover plate shop installed. Can these plates be field welded?
2. The cover plate is shown to be welded on both the flanges and each side of the web. If the cover plate is field welded, there is insufficient room to weld the plate to the web, and to also paint the underside of plate as access is blocked by the precast panel. Can the requirement of welding the plate to the web be removed?
3. Please clarify Note 1 on plan sheet 338. If the top panel is less than the minimum height of 1’-11”, then is the contractor to just add the value to a lower panel? For example the precast panel height between piles 13 and 14 is 9’ – 4 ½”. Does this result in two 3’-11” panels plus one panel that is 1’ – 6 ½”? Or is it one panel 3’-11” and one panel 5’ – 5 ½”?
