Response #2:Per Section 9-1.03 PAYMENT SCOPE of Caltrans Standard specifications 2018: “Payment is: Full compensation for all work involved in each bid item shown on the bid item List by the unit of measure shown for that bid item”. In this case, payment is included in the Bid item 80, CONCRETE BARRIER (TYPE 842 MODIFIED).

Inquiry #3: Regarding "Composite Column Strengthening"

Is Bent 3 Columns the only location to receive "Composite Column Strengthening" ?

Does the material quantity (9,719 sqft.) for “Composite Column Strengthening” called out represent a total estimated material coverage square footage taking in to account the number of layers referenced on sheet 93 of 105 (N1 and N2) in the project plans or is that a concrete surface estimate for the columns ignoring layer counts?

Referencing “Composite Column Strengthening” on sheet 93 of 105 please confirm that N1 Layer call out references an E Glass composite system and the N2 layer call out references a Carbon composite system?

Response #2:Yes. Only the two columns at Bent 3 require composite column strengthening. The elevation detail on sheet 86 of 105 shows that Note H only applies to the two columns at Bent 3.

Regarding the quantity of Composite Column Strengthening, Section 60-4.07D of the special provisions states the quantity is "…the number of layers shown multiplied by the surface area measured..".

The Carbon FRP system is the only one used for composite column strengthening. Please see plan sheet 93 of 105. The systems that are not applicable have been crossed out.
