Inquiry #1: Bid item 21(F) 560218 Furnish Sign Structure (Truss) - Detail on SD-1 does not show a walkway to be used however the CALTRANS standards still call for walkways unless noted. This structure also is using the Class XI reflective sheeting which lately CALTRANS has not wanted walkways on the majority of structures using this sheeting. Can you clarify if a walkway is required or not for this sign structure?
Inquiry submitted 01/24/2018

Response #1:The Furnish Sign structure plan and detail shown in S-1 and SD-1, is on the SB side of the freeway where there will be no pedestrians or walkways.

Inquiry #2: As it pertains to Inquiry #1 - Furnish Overhead Sign Structure - the question is if the sign structure itself requires a walkway - CALTRANS Standard Plans sheet S16 shows a walkway to be attached to sign structures however recently (last 1-2 years or so) since class XI reflective sign sheeting is now being used they have been removing the sign structure walkways on most of the jobs bidding.
Inquiry submitted 01/25/2018

Response #1:NO. THE SIGN STRUCTURE DOES NOT REQUIRE A WALKWAY.

Inquiry #5: Refer to plan sheet 58. Please confirm there is any existing splices on the boxes/vaults at both ends of the bridge. Confirm we can have a planned outage of that line or not. If so, what are the times.
Inquiry submitted 02/27/2018

Response #1:1. There is one existing splice vault on the east end of the bridge, at left of NB Rte 5 Off-Ramp to Pasadena Ave.
There is one existing communication pull box near the west end of the bridge and in the shoulder of SB Rte 5 underneath.

2. There is NO planned outage because the existing conduits are to be split cut and removed, NOT THE INNER DUCTS OR COMMUNICATION CABLES. These will be lowered down/relocated with new split conduits and enclosure per plan.

All these are shown on the plan sheet E-26, sheet no. 58, of the contract plans.
