Inquiry #5: Regarding question and answer #3: please describe the actual work to be performed, not the quantity. Special provisions section 39-2.01C(3)(e)(i) "applies to existing asphalt concrete surfaces".

Are we to grind the existing asphalt prior to performing the digout? What are the dimensions for the grinding area? Only the area we are digging out?

Response #2:
As in the posted response answer to Q#3, it is to indicate the number of digout locations needing segment correction in the direction of the travelled way based on the pavement profile smoothness data information handout provided for project bid. The actual work is the digout segment correction that need to be done before paving. And yes 39-2.01c(3)(e)(i) does apply to existing asphalt concrete surface.

Based on the pavement profile smoothness data information handout provided for project bid and field site investigation you should be able to determine whether digouts are warranted or not incorporation with the Resident Engineer as indicated on the contract plans.
