Inquiry #3: The typical sections on X-1 show the Barrier Slab Section 1 (T = 3'-6") width to ETW as 5'-0", with the Section extending further out to the EP for an overall width > 5'-0". This section is shown as a constant 5'-0" width in the Structure plans. Please confirm that Barrier Slab Section 1 is a constant 5'-0" width, as shown in the Structure plans.

Response #2:On plan sheet X-1, the width of the shoulder adjacent to the barrier on the SB direction has been revised from 2' to be 2'-2" width. This change applies to the 2 cross sections between "VEN33-PM19" Sta 999+38.00 to Sta 1003+15.00 and "VEN33-PM19" Sta 998+92.25 to Sta 1002+03.32.

In addition, the 5' width line has been extended to the Edge of Pavement (EP). This is now consistent with the cross section for the concrete barrier slab - typical section (sheet 90 of 97).

Inquiry #4: Please confirm the State will allow for the installation of threaded rebar couplers ("form savers") as service splices between the Stage 1 and 2 barrier slab work without staggering as required by Section 52-6.03. This is necessary to comply with the second sentence of note 9 on Plan Sheet 90 of 97: "Reinforcing steel shall be continuous through all construction joints."

Inquiry #13: The Stage Construction plans and lane closure charts show the roadway being re-opened to it's original configuration after each of the Stage 1 Phases 1-3. Profile sheet P-2 and the cross sections show grade differentials between OG and FG of 2" to 4" at roadway centerline for most of the length, including a 4" differential at the north end tie-in. The longitudinal construction joint between Stage 1 and Stage 2 is ~3' offset from the centerline and is on or very close to the wheel path. Transverse joint transitions between new construction and existing roadway will also be needed. Please provide details of the temporary longitudinal and transverse construction joints, modify the profiles to eliminate grade breaks that may endanger the traveling public, or modify the construction staging as necessary.

Inquiry #14: The Barrier Slab has no aggregate base and/or bedding shown under it. It appears that much of the existing material at the Slab subgrade plane will be rock. Breaking and removal of rock encountered above subgrade will likely result in overexcavated areas. Please confirm that the Barrier Slab concrete can be placed directly on rock grade with no aggregate base, leveling course, and/or other bedding required.

Response #2:Refer to the CONCRETE BARRIER SLAB – TYPICAL SECTION on sheet 90 of the plans. This typical section does not show any material below the concrete barrier slab, so the slab is to be placed on grade after removing material to construct the slab to the thickness shown with the top of slab at the profile shown. Please bid per the current contract bid documents.
