Inquiry #1: Regarding the traffic striping; is it Caltrans' intention to have all of the traffic striping on this project to be covered by warranty? The Tape items state WARRANTY on the bid sheet, but the thermoplastic items do not. On the plan sheets (pdq-1 & pdq-2) it reads Traffic Stripe (Warranty).
Is it the Departments intention to have the thermoplastic items covered by warranty also?
This is confusing, and needs to be clarified.

Inquiry #2: It remains unclear what material the State wants the contractor to install. Traffic Stripe (Warranty) is vague. Please rename the bid items to either Traffic Stripe Tape (Warranty) or Thermoplastic Traffic Stripe (Enhanced Wet Night Visibility).

Your revised specifications issues with Addendum 1 states the material be installed is thermoplastic material at 0.80 mil or greater but does not require enhanced beads. The revised specification for warranty are the requirements for Tape.

This will need to be revised prior to bid date.

Response #1:Please bid per specifications. Performance requirements for material to use are very clear. The manufacturer is required to warranty their material for 5 years. Contractors need to look for material that meets those requirements.

Inquiry #3: Per Addendum #1, all striping is to be warranty. Did the engineer's estimate get increased to cover all the striping as warranty? This change to warranty for all striping will dramatically increase the cost of the project. Please provide a revised engineer's estimate.

Inquiry #4: The pavement marking materials manufacturers require stripe removal prior to the application of any materials covered by warranty. Is stripe removal specified in the contract for this section of the project?
