Inquiry #3: Regarding the answer to inquiry #1, the 2.5" concrete removal is shown as the MINIMUM removal depth.
Question #1 was asking what the MAXIMUM removal depth may be. What is the MAXIMUM depth of bridge deck concrete to remove?
Do contractors need to concerns themselves with providing protective covers throughout the bridge to protect against potential full-depth removal? Or is full-depth removal unanticipated?

Response #1:The maximum depth should be authorized by the Engineer. Refer to Detail "Joint and Deck Repair Detail" on sheet no. 22 of 24 of current contract plans.
Protective covers may be required for joint reconstruction work.
Refer to Section 60-2 of the Standard Specifications for requirements of protective covers. The Contractor determines exact locations of, and methods of providing, protective covers.
Section 60-2.02C(2) of the Standard Specifications requires protective covers over traffic, unless a portion of the structure can satisfy the requirements of protective covers.
