Inquiry #10: Please refer to contract drawing page 80-81 (E-5 to E-6). It appears the new fiber optic system will installed in the median. This raises several questions:
1) Is this work to be constructed at night under lane closures?
2) The fiber optic system appears to traverse into the #2 lane around the bridge bent for 200 feet. What is the requirement for constructing this work with the work to be constructed under night lanes closures?
3) Will the replacement asphalt be paid under the asphalt pavement bid item?

Inquiry submitted 09/01/2021

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 09/01/2021

Response #2:The fiber optic system work should be constructed during the time specified in the lane closure charts.

Per legend [22] on sheet E-1, the fiber optic conduit will be installed using the horizontal drilling method. Therefore, there won’t be any special requirement to work around the #2 lane nor the need to replace asphalt pavement.

Response posted 09/02/2021

Inquiry #11: The only way the work in the median can be completed is to spread the traffic away from Bent 2 by configuring the K-Rail as shown on Sheet 45 which requires closing the SB On and NB Off Ramps which can only be closed for 14 days. Will all the median work (restripe, set K-Rail, remove barrier, excavate, CIDH, footing, backfill, fiber optic, pave, reconstruct barrier, remove K-Rail, restripe) need to be accomplished in 14 days? The K-Rail configuration is also referred to in the containment system specification (38' wide). Will the finish painting also need to be completed in the 14 days? This seems very unlikely. Please comment.

Response #2:According to lane closure charts I3 and I6, the ramps may be closed for “14 days each stage” 1B and 2B. That’s a total of 28 days for the footing work. All other median work can be performed at night with the No. 1 lane closed in both NB and SB directions.
