Inquiry #1: Is there any chance that Caltrans would consider changing (Line Items 22-25) TWO-COMPONENT PAINT Traffic Stripe and Pavement Marking to PAINT (2-COAT) OR THERMOPLASTIC. This would allow more competitive bidding from Striping Subcontractors as there currently is only 1 contractor in California that has a truck for TWO-COMPONENT PAINT.

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.

Response #2:Attention is directed to Addendum No.1.

Inquiry #2: The number of corrective grinding segments seem insufficient for the substantial amount of crack fill present onsite. Historically, crack fill has caused issues with smoothness. CF tends to swell when HMA is laid over it. The swelling causes bumps large enough to be detected by profilograph adding ALRs to the job. We ask that the State increases the number of segment corrections to eliminate most of the existing the crack fill or advises otherwise on how they intend to handle.

Response #2: The corrective grinding segments shown on Sheet Q-3 were determined after an analysis of the inertial profiling data and are sufficiently identified in the plans.
The additional areas of cracking refence can be found on Sheet Q-4. These locations are proposed to be dugout and repaired as stated in the plans. These locations were also field verified during the development of the project and that was the pavement strategy recommended.
Please place your bid in accordance to the current contract documents

Inquiry #3: Caltrans has been misinformed by Bidder Inquiry No. 1 requesting substitution of Two-Component Paint to Painted Traffic Stripe which resulted in Addendum Number 1. There are at least two companies within a 100 mile radius with the capability of spraying Two-Component Traffic Stripe. Please reconsider the design engineers original intentions of utilizing the Two-Component paint. The use of this product will substantially reduce maintenance costs, while providing needed Wet-Night reflectivity and increased safety for the traveling public.
