Submit new inquiry for this projectInquiry #1: Based on the cross sections shown on the project plans (sheet X-1), all shoulders are ground/paved 0.10-ft and the mainline is ground/paved 0.15-ft. Per Section 39-2.02B(4)(b) Aggregate Gradations of the Standard Specifications, this would mean the shoulders would require 3/8" HMA Type A and the mainline would require 1/2" HMA Type A.
Given that there are 3 separate items for HMA in the bid schedule (HMA Type A, HMA Type A with Type A Fiber, and HMA Type A with Type B Fiber), it appears that this project will require 6 total mix designs:
1) 3/8†HMA Type A
2) 1/2†HMA Type A
3) 3/8†HMA Type A w/Type A Fiber
4) 1/2†HMA Type A w/Type A Fiber
5) 3/8†HMA Type A w/Type B Fiber
6) 1/2†HMA Type A w/Type B Fiber
4 of the 6 above mix designs are extremely uncommon and will more than likely have to be developed from scratch.
Please confirm that:
1) The State intends that contractors provide 6 total mix designs for this project.
2) The engineers estimate is accurate
3) The State intends to award the contract even if the low bid is 25% or more over the engineers estimate

Response #2:Per the Typical Cross Sections, non-fiber HMA (Type A) will be used on all of the shoulders throughout the entire project. Place your bid in accordance with current contract documents
