Inquiry #11: Specification 99-05120, STRUCTURAL STEEL has a shop prime finish. The elements of the structural steel frame are listed as: 1. Hollow Structural Section Columns
2. Wide flange beams for roof members 3. Anchor bolts 4. Channels for Fascia
5. Column base plates
Specification 99-05120, Structural Steel has a shop prime finish.
Specification 99-05500 BUILDING MISCELLANEOUS METAL has a galvanized finish per Detail Note 1 on all ST drawings. Misc Metal items consist of the following: 1. Column cap plates 2. Stiffener plates 3. Framing clips 4. Ladder 5. Truck filler
The columns, base plates and column cap plates are all shop welded items with welding performed at the fabrication facility prior to coating. It is impractical to galvanize the column caps separately from the columns and base plates. A similar condition applies to stiffeners welded to structural beams and to other ancillary items that are shop welded. Requiring galvanizing would require field welding of these items which would compromise the corrosion protection of galvanizing. Please confirm that the attachments to structural steel are themselves to be painted and not galvanized
