Inquiry #1: 1. Bid item 61 Concrete Barrier Transition - The plans do not have a detail on what type of transition are to be built. Please provide a plan sheet or Standard plan sheet of what barriers are to be constructed.

2. With building Transition Anchor blocks at this length the plans or bid items do not include temporary barrier protection for when the barriers are in the cure time. Please advise how Caltrans would like to proceed with this temporary protection.

Response #2:(1) Addendum No. 2, dated October 16, 2023, has been issued to the contract for CONSTRUCTION ON STATE HIGHWAY IN STANISLAUS COUNTY IN AND NEAR PATTERSON AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS FROM FINK ROAD UNDERCROSSING TO KHALSA ROAD UNDERCROSSING. (2) Temporary barrier systems to be placed 2ft from edge of outside traffic lane in shoulder during curing time for barrier transitions.

Inquiry #2: Under what item is the removal of the existing approach slabs paid? Will Caltrans add a bid item for approach slab removal or roadway excavation?

Response #3:For Structure Concrete, Approach Slab (Type R), the cost “includes reinforcement and removal of existing pavement and portion of the existing structure”. Question how is this item of work to paid? There is not pay item provide of the work or the crash cushion that will be required.

Response #2:Curing is part of barrier construction. Furthermore, traffic handling / protection is to be maintained during the curing process. Payment for Traffic handling / protection is covered through several traffic handling items along with Traffic Control System included in the project. Refer to Standard Specifications 2023 Section 9-1.03 “Payment Scope” for payment.
