Inquiry #3: Item No. 19 / Item Code 011264 - Rock Barrier Fence (Miscellaneous Metal):
Would Caltrans accept the substitution of a manufactured and tested / certified attenuator system in lieu of the rock barrier fence (miscellaneous metal) design shown on the bid drawings?
There are several manufacturers, such as Geobrugg, that offer these rated systems. These attenuator systems have been designed for this application and have been thoroughly tested / certified to their rated capacity (for example, Geobrugg Attenuator ATT-20 or Geobrugg Attenuator ATT-40). Further, the components of these manufactured systems can be stain galvanized (Natina) in the same manner as the original rock barrier fence design components.
Please advise.
