Inquiry #1: On the Cross sections it calls out for a .20 RHMA-G "Asphalt Pavement Repair", as called out in Note 4 page 2 of the plans, and page 7 of the plans . Page 23 of the special provisions, bullet point # 2 Measure smoothness of defines the BASELINE profile as "existing pavement segments if structural repairs such as remove and replace asphalt concrete or leveling courses are made and provide the engineer as "BASELINE" inertial profile. From my understanding this is a "BASELINE" profile and the #2 lane RHMA-G will not be held to MRI requirements? As mentioned on page 24 of the special provisions, MRIo is the lower from the EXIST and BASELINE profiles for the .10 mile segments. It is my understanding that the PAVE and FINAL profiles are used to determine pay adjustments and correction segments for MRI requirements, not the BASELINE profile. Will Cal Trans be holding the contractor to MRI requirements on the .2 RHMA-G on the #2 lane based off this understanding of the special provisions and plans?

Response #2:
Caltrans will not be holding the contractor to MRI requirements on the 0.20' RHMA-G on the #2 lane as this is not the final grade profile. PAVE and FINAL profiles as defined by the special provisions are used to determine pay adjustments and correction segments for MRI requirements.

Inquiry #2: Plan Sheets Q1 and Q2 list the quantities for Cold Plane Asphalt Concrete Pavement based on the work shown on the Typical Cross Sections on sheets X-1 and X-2. The cold plane AC pavement depth shown on those sheets is 0.10'. Plan Sheet C-4 shows a Detail for "AC Pavement Repair" to be done after the 0.10' cold planning is done. The Pavement Repair requires an additional 0.20' of Cold Plane AC Pavement for an area of 41,773 SQYD. Please revise the quantity for the Cold Plane AC Pavement bid item to include the additional cold planning required for the "AC Pavement Repair" shown on sheet C-4.
