Inquiry #9: The staging at Tennyson (stages 1 and 4) needs serious reconsideration by CalTrans. The idea of attempting to laydown 700+lf of k-rail each night, then demoing' the road and attempting to either put back temp AC pavement (12"+) or quickly install a median double curb (all in the course of one night shift), and then pick up the 700+lf of k-rail and fully restore the road is unattainable ... especially in the course of 6 nights. By my measurements there is enough room to laydown permanent k-rail and still maintain 4 lanes of traffic during the day .... we would then take one lane at night. Please provide new staging.
Inquiry submitted 11/30/2022

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.

Response #2:Stage plans do not require installation of the temporary barrier system for the entire length of removal and placement, of the median barrier on the same night. This can be done incrementally. Refer to note #2 on plan sheets # 77, 78, 79 of 231, and note #4 on sheets # 86, 87, & 88 of 231, “REMOVE RAISED MEDIAN FROM Sta 45+79.08 TO 53+28.40 INCREMENTALLY DURING NIGHT SHIFT WITH Temp LANE CLOSURE...” and “PLACE RAISED MEDIAN FROM Sta 45+79.08 TO 53+28.40 DURING NIGHT SHIFT INCREMENTALLY WITH Temp LANE CLOSURE...”, respectively.

Contractor may provide Value Engineering Change Proposal to the Resident Engineer during construction.

"Please bid per current contract documents."
