Inquiry #1: How is the State going to protect the traveling public while constructing the barrier slab and the Type 836 barrier between PM 55.22 – 55.34, SB right, 484 LF, from the time the guard rail is removed and the new concrete barrier is installed? The State is creating a condition unsafe to the traveling public. A solution would be to specify and pay for temporary concrete K-rail and a temporary signal.

Response #2:Refer to Addendum #1, dated October 10, 2019. Per section 12-4.02C(3)(k) Chart No. K3, a 15 hour closure window has been provided at all barrier slab locations. Page 106 of the contract plans, volumetric rapid strength concrete has been specified. Please refer to plan sheet TH-1 temporary railing (type k) and related traffic handling items have been added at this location (Addendum #1).

Inquiry #3: What is the design strength for the rapid set concrete? Does the barrier slab concrete need to be integrally pigmented colored concrete?

Response #2:Please refer to page 95 (Concrete Barrier Transition General Plan) of the contract plans under General Design Data a compressive strength of 3.6 ksi has been specified.
Please refer to the contract specifications section 51-1.01A "The concrete for all structural concrete barrier slabs and concrete barrier transitions must be integrally
pigmented colored concrete. The color must match the color of existing adjacent structure at each location."
