Submit new inquiry for this projectInquiry #1: On two previous rumble strip contracts in District 5 there were items for "Fog Seal", to be placed on the newly ground rumble strip. This project does not have an item for fog seal. Is fog sealing of the new rumble strip NOT required on this contract?
Also; There are 2 items for Traffic Tape (Warranty), items 29 & 30; while on the plans there are no quantities for these tape items, everything is called out as Thermoplastic (Enhanced Wet Night Viibility). Could you please clarify what it is that you want (tape, or thermoplastic) for these two items.

Inquiry #2: The existing pavement at locations 4-6 is distressed and raveling. In some locations large portions of the top most layer are gone, exposing lower lifts and this is especially true at pavement joints. If rumble strip layout encounters 'potholes' or failed areas, will the State consider any patching or repairs extra work?

Response #2:Attention is directed to 1-1.01, "GENERAL" of the Standard Specifications. After Contract approval, submit documents and direct questions to the Engineer. Place you bids in accordance to the current contract documents.

Inquiry #3: In regard to the "Traffic Tape" items; The Tape Manufacturer will not warranty tape that is placed in, or on rumble strip. It appears that Caltrans originaly planned on having the yellow skip details (Details 6 & 19) on location 2a placed in tape! That will not work. The white skip lines are fine, but these yellow lines are on newly cut rumble strip.
Please advise so that all bidders are aware of these issues.

Inquiry #4: Do you plan to address inquiry #3? There are valid points with the yellow tape stripe installation on a ground in rumble strip. The tape stripe will fail on a rumble strip. Please make a change prior to bid, so there is not any confusion in the bidding process.
