Inquiry #1: Gravel mulch ( BI #27) is being installed in the middle section of freeway. There are 14' wide shoulder adjacent to rock mulch area. We believe that this provides adequate safe work zone to allow for placement of rock from 7 am to 4 pm. Please confirm this is acceptable and we do not need to follow traffic control charts G1 & G2 for this portion of work.
Inquiry submitted 09/03/2019

Response #1:Contractor needs to follow the allowable hours as shown on the lane closure charts. Bid Per contract documents.

Inquiry #2: Item 44 calls for 8" Welded Steel Pipe Conduit beneath Peck Rd NB Off Ramp, this operation would require Jack and Bore or Pavement removal and patching. Would the state consider using 8" HDPE instead? This would allow for Directional Boring which would cost less for both the state and the contractor.
Inquiry submitted 09/03/2019

Response #1:8" Weld Steel Pipe Conduit will be used and will be installed by Jack and Bore. Bid per construction documents.

Inquiry #3: There appears to be a conflict between sheets PL-1 and PQ-1. Per PL-1, the unit of measurement for soil amendment is cubic feet but the total quantity of soil amendment per PQ-1 (and bid item 19) appears to be calculated using cubic yards as the unit of measurement. Same quantity, different units.
Inquiry submitted 09/04/2019

Response #1:The CF shown under SOIL AMENDMENT for the PL-1 Plant Legend shows the soil amendment application rate. The CY shown on PQ-1 and under Bid Item 19 is the overall quantity.

Inquiry #5: The standard specs require the gravel mulch to be compacted by rolling after placement , is this required since the special provisions require compacting the ground to 90% before the placement of the gravel?
Inquiry submitted 09/04/2019

Response #1:It is required. Bid per contract documents.
Response posted 09/05/2019

Inquiry #6: The Special Provisions 20-5.03(C) 3 mention place gravel mulch after "clearing". Roadside clearing is the only thing called out in the medians but roadside clearing only specifies the removal of weeds since no other plants are called out to be removed. There is existing large shrub along the whole center median. Are these to be removed? If so under what pay item. Please clarify so all bidders bid correctly.
Inquiry submitted 09/04/2019

Response #1:Existing large shrubs to be protected in place, and not to be removed. Per the plans and specifications, only remove weeds and then place gravel.
