Inquiry #12: Section 39-2.01B(4)(b) of the contract special provisions calls for aggregate gradation testing utilizing AASHTO T 30. The NSSP and necessary support documents needed for successful implementation that utilize AASHTO T30 are under development by the Caltrans Pavement & Materials Partnering Committee. The PMPC has not approved this test method for acceptance on projects. AASHTO T 30 is currently only in use on specific pilot projects for specific test sections.

Is AASHTO T 30 QC & QA testing required for material acceptance on the entire project or on specific test sections for the pilot program?

What are the pilot project test section locations that utilize the AASHTO T30 requirements?
