Inquiry #5: This job is scheduled to bid 6/29 right before a holiday; there are other large Caltrans projects with required DBE goals as well bidding the same week (the day after); with the scheduled holiday and pre-determined vacations, it will be extremely hard to collect all required DBE paperwork from our subcontractors and get the package submitted on time per the table in section 2-1.33B(2)(b)(ii), note “B”. We respectfully would like to request a one-time change to the standard specification on the timelines allowed for the paperwork submission. If 8 to 10 calendar days were allotted for this project, that would be very helpful OR a bid extension for this project. Please consider allowing more time for after bid paperwork to be submitted after the holiday weekend, allowing everyone to get back from their vacations.
Inquiry submitted 06/20/2022

Inquiry #6: Per 71-3.08B(1) the minimum thickness is .66" or minimum shown in installation plan, whatever is greater. For the 18", 24", and 30", the design thickness will be much less than .66". 18" and even 24" by .66" may not even be able to be installed as .66 is a very thick liner for 18" and 24" pipe. Will Caltrans drop the .66" requirement, and just base it on Design Thickness? Example 18" will be .3" appx.

Reference Plans Preparation Manual page 2-249

Planting Plan
Planting plans provide a visual
representation in plan view of planting
work in relation to highway facilities.
Planting plans typically show but are not
limited to, the following:
• Roadside clearing limits
ect.

To not include limits precludes determination of the area, and therefore the cost and time for roadside clearing. This is a lump sum item with an ambiguous limits.

Please provide roadside clearing limits.

The PPM does not state that roadside clearing limits must be or shall be shown on the planting plans. PPM example sheet E-4 doesn’t’ show or call out roadside clearing limits, but roadside clearing is required according to the Standard Specifications.

Inquiry #20: Bid item 107 Concrete Invert Paving, specifically location 8 has a constructability issue. The two access points to this culvert are 23’ and 50’ deep respectfully where one access point is located outside the Caltrans R/W and the other down a slope. Placing/pumping concrete will be extremely difficult and very costly due to these conditions. Would Caltrans consider lining this 54” culvert with a 54” Cured in Place Pipeliner rather than a Concrete Invert Paving application? Please consider changing this location to the CIPP method.

Will shotcrete be allowed for placement of invert paving concrete?
