Inquiry #1: Bid Item 157 is to install new sign on existing frame. Due to sign size and location changes the existing laminated panel sign mounting beams look like they need to be moved. How is this going to be paid for?

Response #2:All hardware required to install the sign panel is paid for in the bid items associated with furnishing the sign panel (820710 - 820795A).
All work involved in installing the sign panel on existing frame is covered under bid item 820890.

Inquiry #2: Section 12-4.03C of the special provisions indicates a vehicle opening of 36' width. Section A-A on plan sheet 108 of 418 depicts an opening of 26'. Due to the clearance issues, is the 26' clear opening acceptable or what dimension should we use.

Inquiry #3: This project calls for Alternative Pipe Culvert. In light of the recent fires throughout California and the continuing drought will Caltrans still allow for flammable pipe products such as HDPE and Plastic Pipe for culverts that could be exposed to fire hazards?

Inquiry #4: The description of this project made it not obvious that there is bridgework required. This would explain the lack of major bridge builders requesting sub bids. As this project only recently came to my attention, would it be possible to postpone the bid opening one week?

Inquiry #5: Question 1 answer states "All work involved in installing the sign panel on existing frame is covered under bid item 820890."

This is correct when you attached an overhead sign to an existing sign frame, however when the frame has to be modified or moved this is not covered in this bid item. Installing a sign on an existing frame is just that. If the frame has to be adjusted or moved that is paid for under "Modify Sign Structure" bid item. There is no such bid item on this project.

Section 82-9.03B "Installation of Sign Panels on Existing Frames" says to Install sign panels on existing frames with fastening hardware under section 82-2.03A. Section 82-9.04 "Payment" does not state moving or modifying existing frames is included or incidental to this bid item...nor does it state "all work involved, required or incidental to."

Please add a bid item to cover this work.
