2. Section 12-3.01B stated that "Category 3 temporary traffic control devices must be on the Authorized Material List for highway safety features".

Inquiry #4: Page 160 of the plans (TH-2) shows the maximum length of the work area to be under 500', while on page 32 of the Special Provisions, Chart No. L-1, it states "the maximum length of the work area inside a closure is .5 miles". Is the intent to build the job at 500' per shift of .5miles per shift?

Response #2: Per Traffic Handling plans, Alt. Crash Cushion is called out for. Normal Crash Cushion are barrels, Alt. Crash Cushion are in Caltrans Authorized Material List for Highway Safety Features which are SLED.

Correction. That should be "section" not "shift"

Chart L-1 refers to FULL CLOSURE of Route 74. When full closure of Route 74 is in effect than work area is restricted to 0.5 miles.

TH-2 refers to NO CLOSURE of Route 74. Traffic flow with one lane in each direction must be maintained with reduced lane widths. This condition is restricted to 500’.

Inquiry #7: Please clarify your answer to inquiry #6. Is the contractor only allowed to re-stripe and place temporary k-rail in 500 foot increments at a time, and the work to be constructed behind k-rail must be completed in 500 foot increments for the length of the project?

For striping during full closure, the 0.5 mile restriction is not in effect.
For K-rail, yes it is limited to 500' increments.

Inquiry #8: Plan pages TH-3 and TH-5 show flaggers at a maximum of approximately 500' apart.

Special Provision page 32 states, "The maximum length of a single stationary one-way-reversing traffic-control is 2 miles between flaggers."

Is the flagging work zone restricted to 500' or 2 miles?

Inquiry #13: Under 37-7.03C(2) Automated Continuous Application, the contractor is required to install the second layer of HFST within 4 hours of the first layer. Would the department consider increasing the amount of time to install the second layer? With cure times and lane closure restrictions, it would not be possible to complete in 1 shift.

Inquiry #15: Good morning in the traffic handling plans sheet THQ-1 you call out for 25,050 LF temp striping and 20,050 LF of temp tape. Is there 20,50 LF of paint striping along with the 20,050 LF of temp tape? And if so how are we to get paid for the paint striping there is no item for temp paint striping. Plans for the temp work would be nice!

Inquiry #16: Drainage detail sheet DD-4 (sheet 91 of 219) shows a pipe cable anchoring system on drainage systems 3, 22 & 39. Drainage system 3 is an RCP extension, drainage system 22 is invert paving and drainage system 39 is all RCP with a fall of 4.0%, none of which are downdrains. Please provide details for the cable anchoring systems as they apply to noted drainage systems, and also, a bid item for which they get paid.
