Please confirm that the existing 18" culvert will be removed for the total length between (N) Expanded Type G2 Inlet (also Referenced as Splitter Box) to the (N) Capture Housing Structure. This should be in excess of 29 LF.

Per Standard Specification Section 20-2.01C(2): for trenching and the removal of (E) Surfacing, information is needed on the (E) structural section at these crossing.
Please provide cross-sectional detail for the width and type of asphalt concrete and underline base materials. Is there a minimum trench width for these crossings?
What is the detail and extend of concrete curb and sidewalk removals/replacement for these locations?

Inquiry #17: Does the Capture Housing Structure Vault 2 opening per Drainage Details on Sheet 41 (DD-8) provide a clear opening wide enough for the installation of the screen box assembly within the 3 grates (24-12 (Mod), when completely removed? Section B-B for the Capture Structure indicates a W6 x 25 steel beam spanning across the vault. Where is this located in plan view for the same detail on Sheet DD-9 (Detail "A") showing that it support two adjacent grates?

Inquiry #19: Please clarify if the ramp closures are required, or if contractor has an option to not utilize them for areas with good access off the shoulder? It seems like there are multiple locations where the TH plans do not shown a closure, but a closure chart is provided in the special provisions. Inquiry #25: The Capture Housing Screen Box and Screen Weir are illustrated in an isometric view for DS#10 Screen Box Detail 3 on Drawing DD-13, indicates that the front wall screen box is in line with the screen weir. Drawing DD-8 Plan view shows that these two items are not in line or connected. Please confirm the connection detail for these two items and provide additional details.
Please confirm that the overall height of the Screen Box is 17 1/2" tall which includes the thickness of the lid and top screen. Drawing DD-11 illustrates something different.

Inquiry #29: Please provide more information regarding Bid Item 25 "Clearing and Grubbing". It appears there is not a bid item for tree removal, but there are lots of trees/large shrubs within the work area. Is there a certain maximum diameter tree/shrub that contractor should assume will need to be removed, with anything larger being left in place, or extra work? Also, should contractor assume that the hydroseeding area should determine the clear and grub area? In this case, temporary vs. permanent hydroseeding areas differ significantly in some areas, such as area 4A.

Response #2:Bid Item 25, Clearing and Grubbing, does not include tree removal. Contractor shall not assume that clear and grubbing will be applied to the whole hydroseeding area. Contractor shall clear and grub only the areas where the trash capture devices will be constructed. Existing trees and vegetation in the hydroseeding areas where the trash capture devices are not being installed shall be protected to the largest extent possible.

Inquiry #33: The irrigation plan sheets IR-1 through IR-4 and IP-1 through IP-2 show multiple locations where the irrigation is being installed / removed under existing paved roadway, or shoulder. Please clarify if Contractor will need to remove and replace existing asphalt / hardscape improvements, which will be a significant cost impact, or if these irrigation plans are diagrammatical in nature, and Contractor won't be required to remove / replace existing hardscape / asphalt. If hardscape / asphalt removal and replacement is required, please clarify under which bid item this is to be paid, or add additional bid items and quantities for asphalt removal and replacement.

Response #2:Contractor will not need to remove and replace existing asphalt / hardscape improvements due to installation of irrigation lines. Existing irrigation lines underneath hardscape are protected by existing irrigation conduits, which can facilitate the removal of irrigation lines without damaging existing hardscape. Welded steel pipe conduits are called out on sheets IP-1 and IP-2 to protect new irrigation lines to be installed underneath existing hardscape. Per Caltrans standards, welded steel pipe conduits shall be installed through directional boring or jack and drill, which avoids the need to remove existing hardscape.

Please clarify if the existing remove control valves get a new wire. Is the constructor using the existing wire?

Response #2:On sheet IP-1, Contractor shall install new control wire along the new mainline to replace the portion of the existing control wire that is getting removed. New mainline and new control wire do not connect to existing remote-control valves at this location. On sheet IP-2, Contractor shall install new control wire and connect it to the existing remote-control valves. Existing wire at this location is shown as removed on sheet IR-4.
