Response #2:While it is not recommended, both structures can be worked on concurrently. Please keep in mind that work on Yellow Creek Bridge cannot start until September 2025 as stated in the special provisions.

Inquiry #2: The Fish and Wildlife Permit in the Information Handout, under the Section for Upgrade Bridge Railings says "Temporary work platforms will be suspended below the bridge deck overhangs prior to beginning of demolition and construction. Additional temporary debris catchment systems will be installed to contain demolition and construction debris from entering Yellow Creek and Schell Creek." This seems to imply two separate systems. If traditional edge of deck overhang forming systems are used and sheeted solid with plywood, will a secondary system be required? Thanks.

Response #2:It would not be sufficient to only have the temporary work platforms, bridge rails, and overhangs. If the contractor uses temporary bridge railing that is also covered (i.e. covers railing with sheeted plywood) and fully prevents debris from getting through, a secondary system (i.e. using netting) will not be necessary so long as all construction demolition and debris are caught by a debris catchment system that doesn’t allow this material to enter Yellow Creek and Schell Creeks. This work is covered in the Caltrans Standard Specifications 2023 sections 13-4.03E(5) and 13-4.03E(6).
