Submit new inquiry for this projectInquiry #1: Q: What methodology (field survey, photogrammetry, etc.) did Caltrans use to measure the quantities for the Anchored Double Twisted Wire Mesh System as given on Plan Sheet 129 (Q-1) Summary of Quantities? Please describe.
Inquiry submitted 12/19/2023
Response #1:Caltrans used field surveys and Mobile Terrestrial Laser Scanning to obtain the original ground data. Using this information, a design surface was created for proposed cut slopes. The measured area of the proposed cut slope surfaces was used to calculate the quantity of Anchored Double Twisted Wire Mesh System, with contingencies added for surface irregularities and overlap.

Inquiry #2: Please provide Foundation Reports and any and all geotechnical information. We can not calculate the length of the Rock Dowel shown on Drawing C-6 without this information.
Inquiry submitted 12/27/2023
Response #1:An addendum will be issued to provide an updated Information Handout for the project that includes the geotechnical information developed for the project.

Inquiry #3: Are there timeframes of the year where work is not allowed to be occurring ?
For example a winter weather shutdown from January 15th to March 15th every year
Inquiry submitted 12/27/2023
Response #1:Seasonal work windows and times that work cannot occur have been specified in Section 10-1.03 and Section 12-4.02C(3) of the Special Provisions. Additional requirements for work during seasonal work windows have been specified in Section 14-6.03A of the Special Provisions.

Inquiry #4: Does all of the loose material including boulders and cobbles need to be scaled from the slopes before the Anchored Double Twisted Wire Mesh System is installed ?
Inquiry submitted 01/17/2024
Response #1:Finished cut slope surfaces shall be prepared in accordance with Section 19 of the Standard Specifications. Scaling will not be required prior to installation of the Anchored Double-Twisted Wire Mesh Systems. Please bid in accordance with current contract documents.
Response posted 01/22/2024
Inquiry #5: Please confirm that the slope can be flattened from the top of the slope to the Right of Way limit at each wall to allow work to be done from the top down on the slope
Inquiry submitted 01/17/2024
Response #1:Anchored Double-Twisted Wire Mesh Systems must be installed as shown on the plans without flattening of the slopes above the systems. Please id in accordance with contract documents.
Response posted 01/22/2024
Inquiry #6: Please confirm that the flattened slope between the top of the slope to the Right of Way does NOT need to be restored and can be left as is
Inquiry submitted 01/17/2024
Response #1:Anchored Double-Twisted Wire Mesh Systems must be installed as shown on the plans without disturbance of the slopes above the systems. Please bid in accordance with contract documents.
Response posted 01/22/2024
Inquiry #7: Can a Temporary Construction Easement 10 ft beyond the Right of Way be provided for all of the slopes so work can be done efficiently from the top down ?
Inquiry submitted 01/17/2024
Response #1:Temporary construction easements will not be provided for installation of the Anchored Double-Twisted Wire Mesh Systems. Anchored Double-Twisted Wire Mesh Systems shall be installed as shown on the plans, without disturbance of the slopes above the systems. Please bid in accordance with contract documents.

Inquiry #8: Plan Sheet 26 of 148 In reference to Post length table which specifies specific lengths based upon a P designation for each post , after review of each wall profile where would the length of post be located.
Inquiry submitted 01/17/2024
Response #1:The lengths and locations of posts required for Rail Element Walls shall be as shown in the Rail Element Wall details on Sheet C-9 and in the Rail Element Wall Profiles on Sheets C-10 through C-16. Pleas bid in accordance with contract documents.
Response posted 01/22/2024
Inquiry #9: In reviewing plan sheet C-9, in calls out the Retaining Wall Posts to be W6x16. Can Cal Trans please confirm that this sizing is correct, other retaining walls we have installed in the area we done with the more standard W6x15 sizing?
Inquiry submitted 01/18/2024
Response #1:Construct Rail Element Retaining Walls using W6x16 posts as shown on Construction Detail Sheet C-9. Bid in accordance with contract documents.

Inquiry #10: This project contains the new Fuel Price Index Fluctuations specification (9-1.08 of the Special Provisions). Per 9-1.08 the contractor can opt out of the fuel payment adjustments at the time of bid.
When we open AASHTOWare and click on the tab titled "OPT OUT OF PAYMENT ADJUSTMENTS FOR PRICE INDEX FLUCTUATIONS" on the left side of the screen, we are only presented with one option to "OPT OUT OF PAYMENT ADJUSTMENTS FOR PRICE INDEX FLUCTUATIONS".
It appears that selecting the above option would result in opting out of both the fuel payment adjustments and the oil index adjustments (Section 9-1.07).
We only want to opt out of the fuel payment adjustment while keeping the oil index adjustment. How can we do this in AASHTOWare?
Inquiry submitted 01/18/2024
Response #1:An addendum will be issued to address this inquiry.

Inquiry #11: Can you please clarify the design cover for the Wildlife Undercrossings? Per AASHTO min cover is supposed to be span/8 which calculates to 1.69’ and scaling the drawing it appears to be less than AASHTO standard.
Inquiry submitted 01/19/2024
Response #1:Construct Wildlife Undercrossings per Construction Details on Sheets C-8 and C-9. Please bid in accordance with contract documents.
Response posted 01/22/2024
Inquiry #12: The Geotechnical information presented in the contract documents does not provide RQD or other Geotechnical data to evaluate whether or not the Rock Dowel holes will stay open or if temporary casing is needed while drilling. Therefore please approve the use of Hollow Bar which would not require the use of temporary casing and would reduce the cost for the tax payers

Inquiry #13: Per special provision revised spec section 19-6.02A requires all embankment fills to be free of RAP or broken asphalt. Please confirm the import borrow quantity required for the large fill from approximate Sta 58+00 to 77+00 is correct?
Inquiry submitted 01/22/2024
Response #1:See response to inquiry 14.

Inquiry #14: Per plan sheet Q-1 the roadway excavation quantity is only for the cut quantity outside the existing EP. Our take-off from supplemental cross sections provided show significantly different quantities for roadway excavation and embankment. Please confirm that the bid quantities are correct or provide a roadway excavation and embankment quantity breakdown for each sheet.
Inquiry submitted 01/22/2024
Response #1:The quantities of roadway excavation and imported borrow are correct.
The quantity of roadway excavation does not include full depth recycling of the existing paved roadway surface and material below the existing paved roadway surface required to reach finished subgrade. Additional material that is required below the existing paved roadway surface is included as part of the full depth recycling item.
The quantity of earthwork material available for embankment construction includes all roadway excavation outside of the existing paved roadway section and surplus excavation materials from culvert and wildlife undercrossing excavations. Imported borrow will be required to supplement the earthwork materials available for embankment construction.
Materials from full depth recycling of the existing paved roadway surface can only be used within the new roadway paved section as Class III base material and cannot be used in embankment outside of the new paved roadway section.
